In Memory of Mike Karels

We are deeply saddened by the passing of Mike Karels, a pivotal figure in the history of BSD UNIX, a respected member of the FreeBSD community, and the Deputy Release Engineer for the FreeBSD Project. Mike’s contributions to the development and advancement of BSD systems were profound and have left an indelible mark on the Project. Mike’s vision and dedication were instrumental in shaping the FreeBSD we know and use today. His legacy will continue to inspire and guide us in our future endeavors. Our thoughts are with Mike’s family, friends, and all who knew him. He will be greatly missed.

FreeBSD Core Team 13 is Now In Office  

The FreeBSD project is pleased to announce that the 2024 FreeBSD Core Team election has concluded, and the following eight members now take office as the thirteenth Core Team:

  • Li-Wen Hsu (lwhsu),
  • Allan Jude (allanjude),
  • Gleb Smirnoff (glebius),
  • Tobias C. Berner (tcberner),
  • Hiroki Sato (hrs),
  • Olivier Cochard (olivier),
  • Dave Cottlehuber (dch), and
  • Mathieu Arnold (mat).
Running GoToSocial on NetBSD  

Author wanted a communication tool for the NoGoo.me searxng instance they manage. But they want a software with small footprint so they used GoToSocial.

DHCPv6-PD - First steps  

OpenBSD-current now has IPv6 prefix delegation available via the new dhcp6leased(8) deamon. Now before he committed the code, Florian Obser wrote a blog post on the process of developing the new program in a piece called DHCPv6-PD - First steps.
